  • Oconee was bred for its desirable characteristics such as high quality kernels, disease resistance, and its most important quality, large nut size, combined with a thin, easily cracked shell. It was introduced on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Pecan Tree Zone Finder

    With only 48 pecans per pound and 53% kernel, these large morsels ripen and fall early to tempt the wildlife.

    With an excellent pecan harvest in as little as five years, this highly precocious variety will be a profitable addition to any orchard.

    The Oconee is gaining popularity and replacing many older varieties due to, in part its resistance to pecan scab. Cross-pollinate with a Type II variety such as the Forker or Kiowa.
