Bass Pecan Company purchased the original stock of pecan trees from C. Forkert in the 1920's. Discovered in Jackson County, Mississippi, the Forkert pecan tree was a little known yard tree in the south.
Due to the superb quality of its pecans, the word got out, and the Forkert gained popularity. They have since been shipped to homes and commercial orchards all over the world.
The Forkert pecan tree produces very large, thin shelled pecans that average only 53 nuts a pound.
The size is great, but the quality of its kernel is the best. The Forkert boasts a whopping 58% kernel, with an attractive cream to golden color.
The nut of the Forkert pecan tree matures in time for the early market, and consistently fetches the highest prices. More than half its kernels can be graded 'fancy' and it is easy to crack.
Perfect for home growing because it keeps its leaves later than most pecan trees, the Forkert exhibits superior production when it matures. Cross-pollinate with a Type I tree such as the Cape Fear, Creek, Pawnee or Desirable.
