One of the many Indian varieties of pecan tree created in Brownwood, Texas by L.D. Romberg. The Choctaw grows to maturity at an average rate and makes a wonderful yard tree because of its beautiful foliage.
It has resistance to pecan scab and high yields of large, top-quality pecans.
The nut from the Choctaw pecan tree has an egg shape to it as well as a thin shell structure which is great for shelling.
At 58% kernel and 37 nuts per pound, the large, creamy, golden kernels of the Choctaw are just right for roasting.
Choctaw should be cross-pollinated with a Type I pecan tree such as the Jackson, Oconee or Desirable.
