Blackberry Plants

Blackberries are native to the USA and are particularly prized in the Southeast for fresh eating, cobblers, jams, and jellies. Full sun, or nearly so, and well-drained soil rich in organic matter can sustain blackberries for 2 decades or more. Routine maintenance includes early spring fertilizer, regular watering, and annual pruning after fruiting to remove old canes and stimulate new ones. Blackberry thickets in the wild are notoriously thorny, but cultivated varieties are thornless yet retain the excellent flavor of the natives.
