Blueberry Plants
Blueberries are native to the Southeast US, long-prized by people and wildlife. More are planted every year for their combination of healthy good taste and low maintenance needs. Full sun sites are most productive, but there will be some berries to pick even in partly shaded locations. Plant blueberries 3-4 feet apart, further if you do not intend to prune them. Fertile, well-drained soils with ample amounts of organic matter will sustain blueberries for many years. Usually maintained with annual pruning at 4-6 feet tall, blueberries can become a hedge heavy with fruit followed by red and yellow fall color. Rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, delicious fresh or cooked and easily frozen, blueberries are a staple fruit for home gardens and small acreage operations.
